  1. I hate to say this...but some cats just like to do that.  Even female cats will sometimes go pee on random things just because they want to.

  2. It's spreading its scent around.  Basically, it's his way of marking his territory... by peeing on what's his.

  3. It is possible that he may have a urinary tract or bladder infection.  You always want to rule out any medical problems before trying to treat a behavioral issue.  The best thing to do would be to take a urine sample to your vet and have them run a urinalysis.  They will be able to tell you if the cat has a urinary or bladder infection, or if the cat has crystals in its urine.  If he has an infection, simple antibiotics will clear it up and if it is crystals, there is a prescription food that you can get from your vet that prevents them from forming.  If it is a behavior problem, but could try Feliway.  It is a synthetic pheromone for cats to make them feel less anxiety and helps behavior problems such as marking.  You also need to think if anything around the house changed recently.  Were there strangers in the house, did you move the location of the litter box or change the type of litter, etc.?  Cats can sometimes urinate sporadically if their environment changes.  First and foremost- take the cat to the vet to rule out anything medical.  If it is a medical problem, not only will the cat be suffering, but the problem is very unlikely to go away and it will be more difficult to reverse the behavior the longer it continues.

  4. If this is new behavior for him, I would take him to the vet as soon as possible.  It sounds like a urinary tract infection.  My friend's cat had one and it is very serious - the toxins can kill him.

  5. ya, cats will do that sometimes, are you sure the cat isnt 'spraying?'

  6. he could be marking his territory.
