Why is my cat peeing everywhere?

i have a male cat who's 6 years old. a couple weeks ago my family went on a vacation for a week, and left the cats (we have two, they are brothers) at the house with a pet sitter coming everyday.

when we get back from vacations, my cats are usually a little stand-offish. but lately one has taken to peeing in the corner of the dining room and other spots. if he doesn't stop soon I'm afraid we might have to get rid of him. is there a particular reason hes doing this when he has his own clean litter box right downstairs? is he angry at us or something?

  1. he may have a urinary tract infection. Take him to a vet. If the vet says nothing is wrong and you want the peeing on the floor to stop, you can go to petdiapers.com and order diapers for him.

  2. oh that's easy..hes a male cat right?? well male cats do that... there like sunks they spray...but the difference is is that the male cat sprays where ever is a new place to them... not because of danger..

    hope this helps!!

  3. Hopefully he doesnt have a Urinary Tract infection or Urinary Tract blockage...a visit to the vet will make sure that it is neither of these they could be fatal if not treated soon

  4. Contrary to what Tanisha says, peeing is not the same a spraying.  The problem could be with a number of things.  A lot of times, male cats won't share litter boxes with each other.  You might try having two separate litter boxes for your cats and see if that helps.

What it sounds like to me, though, is that your pet sitter didn't change the kitty litter like he/she was supposed to, and your cat got so desperate for a new place to pee and just got used to doing it in corners.

There's spray repellent stuff you can buy at most pet supply stores that will keep the cat from peeing in the corner of the dining room, and any time you catch him peeing anywhere other than his litter, spray him with water.  If you see him going in his litter box, be sure to praise him and let him know that's what you want.

  5. male cats are not like skunks.

your cat feels under threat that there is another male cat in the house, they may be competing, something that is not unheard of when you have two animals of the same s*x living in close promiximity,

your cat is spraying his sent so that your other cat knows that those places are his domain.

the best way to solve this problem is to get one or both of your cats neutered. many people do this when the cats are around 12 months old,

    this should stop the rivalry.

    hope all ends well

  6. Cats do hold grudges.. Mine do when I go on vacation.

    He'll get over it soon.

    But if it continues..

Go on pet sites, they'll have loads of tips. Or you can neuter him.. He might be spraying.

  7. he my be marking his territory. Surprisingly cats do that too. use bleach and put it where he usually or most likely will pee.

Hope this helps and if it doesn't take him to a vet's ASAP. i had a male cat around that age and he had that problem, turns out he had some kind of bladder disese or something. so watch out.
