Question:

Why is my cat pulling her own fur out?

I have a 19 year old cat that has 1 eye (she lost the other 7 years ago).

I've taken her to the vets and she has been given a clean bill of health.

For the past year she has been ripping clumps of her own fur out - she started on her legs and now is pulling fur out on all her legs and started on her back. she will sit there and just rip it out with her teeth.

She is up to date with all her flea treatment etc.

She is also meowing (more like wailing) constantly, the vet says she is not in pain!

Does anyone know what could be wrong or has anyone had this with their pet??

  1. she might have allergies.

    or she could have fleas

  2. Did you vet suggest giving her prednisone?  I know of a cat who had similar problems and getting a prednisone injection every few months seemed to help.  Maybe you should call your vet and ask.

By the way, is this a vet you really trust?  It sounds like something's going on with your cat, and if it was me I'd be sure I was getting the best advice available.  19 years is a long friendship.

  3. its stress because we had a bird that did that when it was stressed try to calm her down and get her relaxed
