Recently I have noticed my 7 year old cat throwing up food,I have taken him to the vet and the vet cannot decide what this could be caused from, I changed his diet thought maybe it was the food I was giving him, no change, Me next thought was it was caused from his fluffy hair so I took him to a groomer and had him shaved... Still no change.. I am begging to think it is something serious... If you have any ideas of what it might be and what I might possible try, I am open to suggestions... Thank you in advance

  1. Sometimes cats like to eat grass. My cats even do it. Usually when they eat it they throw up dry food and water too. That is probably what the problem is unless it is constantly doing it. You should just keep an eye on your cat and see what it does all day and if it isn't eating grass you should go to a different vet.

  2. I think she is overeating my cat hurls like that sometimes too.

  3. this is often related to the fat content being hard on an older cats tummy

read this link it explains how some foods use fat to fool the owners into thinking its good food..

and how some foods with LOW fat content actually make your cat eat more food because of other ingredients (corn)..

read the link I am sure you will learn something from it..

he should be on a SENIOR formula... if you want more help with food - post again what country you live in too

  4. I was in the same boat...my cat was a year and a half old..he threw up his food about once a day....we didnt go to see a vet because we thought it was about his food...so we bought him this food for sensitive stomachs and he is much better...i hope your cat feels bettter and yes you might want to see a vet before getting the new food

  5. I give mine plain unflavored yogurt before each feeding for a few days when he gets to puking.  A single serve container will last you 4 feedings (I use a 1/4 each time).  It's worth a try for less than $1.

  6. Has your cat been playing with any small toys etc. If so, he may have a bit of the toy or some of the stuffing stuck in his intestine which is preventing him from digesting his food and therefore he has no choice but to bring it back up. I would consider an x-ray or something so you can see if there is something blocking it.

  7. Try a different vet, as yours wasn't much help.

  8. Get a second opinion and some blood work.  It still may be the diet but stay on top of this.  I hate that he does not feel better yet.  Good Luck.

  9. cat eats grass to clear stomache and pukes up . .

  10. Try gradually switching the food to something different that is just for older cats that is also nutritious. I've had the same problem before, just by a new food for older cats, and give the new food to it. Don't give it a whole bowl of new food though. Mix the old and new ones, and graually progress to all new food.

    Hope I've helped :)

  11. it could really be a lot of things.  I had a cat that did the same thing- she threw up constantly. I tried everything.  I took her to numerous vets, finally one told me it had something to do with her digestive system and she could only have a certain type of food .  (it was an expensive brand that she didn't really like too much but it helped)  Take her to another vet if you can tell them to check her thyroid too.  I cna't remember what food they put my cat on - it was a long time ago- but it did help.  also throwing up sometimes is normal.  Even weekly isn't neccessarily bad-.

  12. I have the same problem with my 10 year old cat. I have raised his food and water bowl off ground level so his neck is lower than his body!! I have been told in older cats food and water can get stuck in throat and by raisin food and water enables him to swallow properly!!! It seems to be working at the moment!!! x*x

  13. You should get a second opinion from a new vet.  Sounds like the regular vet wasn't much help.
