Why is my cat twitching constantly?

I recently adopted a 3 1/2 year old cat from a shelter. The adoption center said her previous owners declawed her while she was an adult (apparently, that's too late). After, her personality changed from kind and sedate, to reclusive and edgy. I adopted her and discovered she was very sweet. But she twitches frequently like she has a bothersome itch. My mother and I have considered that it may be a skin condition. Or is it related to the declawing? We are planning to take her to the vet, but I would like to hear an outsider's opinion. Thanks.

  1. she might have fleas, or dry skin, go to pet smart they have  a vet clinic inside, you can talk to the vet about getting her som glen haven a1 hypoallergenic pet shampoo, it could be an allergy too, of course the best thing to do is call the vet and ask if you are not going to take her in.

  2. A cat can, but shouldn't, be declawed as an adult. After two years of age it can cause behavioral problems as you have seen. I don't think that the twitching is related to the declaw. It sounds like dry skin or an allergy to me. Cats scratch with their back feet - has she done more of that lately? Does she have fleas? Do you know what kind of food and litter she was used to, and have you changed it? Some kinds of food or litter can have ingredients that a cat can be allergic to. Good luck and thanks for taking in a cat.

  3. It sound like fleas to me. Try advantage or vetting her.
