  1. Your cat may have allergies or it may be a cold, as cats can develop allergies and get colds, too. Some cats actually drool when you pet them.  I have one that does that.  Some say when kittens are taken away from their mother when they are too young they end up being droolers.

  2. lol my cats do the same thing. when im petting my cat she will start to drool...well i cant tell if its from her nose or mouth but it drips all over. its just when shes being love <3 haha nothing to worry about no alergies!

  3. I doubt it is his runny nose, more like salivating/drooling. Drooling can occur for a number of reasons in cats. Probably the most commonly identified reasons are gum or teeth disorders. Oral ulcers can sometimes cause excessive salivation. Problems that lead to nausea, such as renal failure or gastrointestinal disease also cause excessive salivation. Some cats salivate excessively when they are nervous or stressed. This is a common reaction to oral medications and application of flea control products, too. Your vet can help sort through these possibilities and hopefully find a treatable cause.

On another note, if he only drools when you are petting him, then there is nothing to worry about. This is a direct respond to your petting. Cats react differently when stimulated. Some roll on the floor with pleasure, some stick their buttocks high up the hair, some will even vocalized in a sing song manner.

Although you may be tempted to correct of fix this behavior, unfortunately, stimulated drooling is involuntary. Your cat cannot control his response to your petting. However, you can help him swallow his saliva instead of drooling by lightly tapping him on the nose or by stroking his neck and gently tugging his head upwards. Also, have some paper towels or cloth ready to clean up. :)
