Why is my cell phone doing this?

I'm trying to send a text message and I have to resend it several times before it will go through. It's driving me nuts!

with the phone turn on, remove the battery and press the power key (on/off) for like 15 seconds. after the 15 seconds put the battery back on and power the phone on that should do it. if not it  might be a network issue.
