I have a 2000 Ford Taurus. It has Flex Fuel capability. I never ran E85, but decided last night to put it in. This morning the engine light came on. I have no problems with starting or acceleration. Is a sensor picking up the change in fuel?

  1. check and make sure you put the gas cap back on good and tight that will set the check engine light to come on,if it has no running problems, you can also take it by any auto zone store and they will scan the computer and tell you if it has any bad sensors that is causing the light to come on,you cant guess at this one though, there's too many things that can cause it,the most common is leaving the gas cap loose, good luck.

  2. i dobut it, get it to a shop and have it scanned and see what the code is

  3. There are two billion and one reasons why a check engine light would be on.  Ford Taurus's are c**p cars anyways for all kinds of problems.  specially sensor problems.

  4. that is just the o2 sensor picking up the fuel change...if it doesn't go away. disconnect the positive battery terminal for ten seconds and drive on a tank of e85

  5. It is most likely one of  the O2 sensors, prob no need for repair, run a fuel injector cleaner (lucas brand is best) and see if light goes off w/regular fuel, should have no problems, I would not take to shop unless they run codes/lights for free (free diagnostic) nothing to worry about, no that light is not indicating change in fuel,  probably cpu noticing change in exhaust/o2 sensor, but if money is tight just drive, no worries

  6. you probably did not tighten the gas cap on all the way. but it may be the gas. go to oriely's and have it scanned for free and get back to me i can help.
