i have a bantam silkie egg in my incubator, it was meant to hatch yesterday but it has not hatched yet, its not dead cos i candled it and it seems to be moving. its beak is not yet in the air cell so i'm worried. This morning i candled it but it was not moving but i did not want to open it cos i mite kill it so i made a small hole in the middle of the egg and put cling film over it so i cud see it and it was moving :) i can see its feet :) i also saw the yolk sac and it doesn't seem that the chick has eaten it yet. i want to know the reason why the chick has not hatched yet, the tempreture was quite low does that help?

  1. nop not dead it needs more time to hatch

  2. It takes time. Hatching from that egg is really really REALLY tiring for a baby chicken! Let it do its thing and it will be fine. Keep an eye on it though, and keep it warm!

My dad has Buff Orp and red star hens and they might start laying soon and we want to try and hatch some eggs. Is it hard? I need some info about them and I was wondering if you knew a lot about them. Thanks and good luck!

Oh, and congrats on your little baby chicken! I hope it turns out to be a success!

  3. It needs to stay warm, under a low heat light.

  4. I don't know much about hatching chicks but surely they don't give you a date of arrival, aren't they like everything else that is hatched or born, they arrive when they are ready, some early some late?

  5. Eggs can take a while to hatch out. Just be patient. Not sure that your cling-film covered hole will help it much, though!

  6. Probably not. Just give it time, its kinda like a new born baby, some want to come out, others don't, but eventually they have to.
