Why is my chinese water dragon dancing?

I own a 2 year old chinese water dragon. He (I assume it's a he, but it still has juvenile qualities) has recently started in on this dance where he waves his front two legs one at a time and sways his tail. He will sometimes change position and turn the opposite way to do the dance. He often does it while sitting under a fluorescent bulb I just put in. I did have a bulb in that same place for a while, but it had been burned out for a few months. He is the only lizard in the cage. I know that this is about the time that he should be completely matured, so is this a mating dance that he is doing? It just kinda threw me off and thrilled me when I saw him doing this. He's been doing it for about a week now.

  1. Mine used to do this when he saw his shadow in the glass. Maybe the new light is reflecting off the glass so he see's his shadow. If so it's a sign of mating, or aggression, depending on his maturity and his temperment.

  2. This can be a sign of aggression actually!  Here is a good link to WD behavior:

Has he been without a UVB bulb for a few months??  Make sure it's not just fluorescent, but actually UVB for reptiles.  No UVB will lead to very serious illness.

  3. cause he's in heat
