Why is my cockatiel always squaking?

My cockatiel is almost 2 years old and lately she has been chirping out of control. She is almost always chirping except for when she has something in her mouth or when someone is rubbing her head. She has never been like this before. It started about a week ago a day after we picked her up from our neighbors house. She had been staying with them for a month while i was on vacation. They said she had been quiet and she seemed perfectly fine. I've tried everything i know(but that isn't much). Please help me!

  1. My cockatiel did exactly the same thing, but only if he wanted attention.  Yours may have been very lonely, and missed you while you were gone! Now that you are back together, not only is your bird excited, but she wants to play!  My cockatiel started doing that too, and would usually shut up as long as I let him ride on my shoulder all day, but that got really annoying after a week or so..

  2. Maybe she's just happy to see you -  and to be home!

Birds chirp and squeak when they are happy.  Cockatiels are not normally "quiet" birds all the time.  I think she's just being a cockatiel!

Does she have enough things in her cage to occupy her time?

Things like paper to shred, or more than one perch and a rope perch to climb on, and hanging, dangling toys to chew on?  Maybe a shallow bowl of water in the bottom of the cage to bathe in?

If she's got most of these things, she is probably just Happy to be home!

  3. Were these people bird people?  It sounds like she was left in the cage a lot and ignored, nor matter what they told you.  Also, you were away from her a whole month.  You have to remember when you take a bird(s) into your home, you become the momma/daddy, flock, mate.  Leaving like that for so long really stresses them.  Just keep her out of the cage and with you as much as possible.  If you work, that would mean any time your off and on days off all day.  She thinks you deserted her and she's mad at you.  Females are usually the quiet ones unless upset.
