Why is my computer buffering so slow?

Question

for the last two days youtube is just slowed to an almost stop.it took an hour to get 2mins of a 3 min clip done.tonight i cliked on a 9min comedian clipand its just buffering continuiosly but hasnt done anything at all....even when i click on my mail inbox it takes a long while to actually open.some of my favorites wont open at all.

i dont know much about computers so i dont have that much saved on it.the local drive says 117gb free of 177gb.....

this laptop is 8 months old and twice its been back to "SONY*(vaio) FOR REPAIR" after it crashed on me twice.

is it the laptop or something i'm doing wrong?
