Why is my computer screen freezing and not turning on?

Question

when i turn on my computer (laptop) the screen goes on the first time. then, in about 5 minutes, it freezes and i have to reboot. but when i do, the screen doesn't even turn on. i have to wait another hour or 2 before trying again before it actually goes on again. when it does turn on i go to safe mode and use system restore to a couple of days ago. i tried system restore twice, but the problem is still there. i have a sony vaio laptop. do you think it could be the hard drive, the battery, or a virus? help please :(

It sounds like the hard drive.  Your best bet would be to backup all of your files to a thumb drive or external hard drive and re-install the entire operating system and applications.  This will also eliminate the possibility of a virus.
