This is what happens I push the power button to turn on my computer, It begins the startup process then within seconds it shuts down. Every once and awhile it gets to this screen that says "unexpected shutdown due to thermal problem press F1 to start normally press F2 to go to setup utility" What does this mean and how do i fix my computer?

  1. You could have a power supply problem. That can be replaced.

  2. check if anything is blocking the fans

  3. Google your error message.  I would contact the computer company re a thermal problem.  You don't want your system overheating.

  4. It is probably that one of your critical components is over heating. Clean out your fans, replace broken ones, and then add more. And check to make sure that the heat sink on your CPU is functioning. If not, then that definitely needs to be replaced.

  5. Make sure its not too close to the wall, or it is too cramped.

  6. Two ideas come to mind, one, the fan in the power supply may have failed... while they are long-lived, they can and do fail.. check the power supply, and see if the fan is rotating, or, if it is dusty, and therefore, not drawing enough air..

the other thing is, open the computer case and see if the fan on your cpu is working.. this is usually the problem when you have a thermal problem.  it needs to be replaced immediately, otherwise, your cpu can die, and then you get to spend more money that the cost of a fan.

  7. your processor is overheating! if you dont know much about computers you should take it somewhere to be repaired.  the problem is often caused by a dust-filled CPU fan.  i had the same problem a while ago and i took the computer apart to find that the CPU fan/heatsink fell off alltogether!

  8. your computer has a heat problem.

First open it up, and clean all the dust out. I'd use a little brush and a can of compressed air.

Second, once it's clean make sure all the fans are working. Start it up, and make sure everything is spinning. If there is something that isn't, replace the part. It could be a heatsink fan, or a power supply fan, or even a case fan.

Lastly if none of those fix the problem, you'll have to take off your heat sink. Clean the heatsink, and processor with isopropyl alcohol. It it dry, reapply the thermal grease. That should fix any heat problems with the processor.

    hope that helps.
