I recently bought my son a female albino cornsnake. Since we brought the snake home and got her settled in her new surroundings. She seems to be aggressive towards us. She curls up, rattles her tail like a rattle snake and begins to strike. She has yet to bite us. We don't feed her in her cage we take her out and put her in a different container for her to feed just like the seller told us. My son is amused by her aggression and still picks her up. I on the other hand am scared when she acts this way. Help! We also have a female baby Butter Corn and I don't want her to end up with the same tempermant any suggestions

  1. its a new snake wat do u expect?? 1ce  its used to u guys it wont be agresive be patient it takes some time

  2. if you just got her than shes afraid and she has to have time to adjust just like any other animal. leave her be for about4-6 days and then gradually begin to handle her. she'll get much better.

  3. I bought a baby corn snake and she does this do i was going to get her out and all a sudden i hurd this rattle sound and her tail was vibrating against her pine bedding, but she has struck at me but never bit me.....but i go out and catch wild snakes all the time and i have been bitten by almost every snake in west Virginia and Maryland and i would say the corn is the most painless bite.....it just fills like pressure so if a wild one doe sent hurt i dout a pet would be any worse....but just pick her up and hold her let her get used to you and Ur scent and she will stop.....but when it comes to feeding them that's when they can get aggressive toward you.......they see Ur fingers while Ur feeding them they do strike..

Good Luck Everything will be fine

  4. There's no real specific answer as to why it is like this. if the corn snake is a little older, i would assume it is aggressive b/c no one ever handled it. It's a little out of character for a corn b/c they are usually very pleasant but it does happen. I would just suggest to continually handle it and this activity should stop. Time and regular handling should cure this. And don't be afraid, even if a corn snake did bite you, it hurts less than you pinching yourself, especially by a baby. Just be confident.

  5. Baby snakes are almost *always* this way.   Think about it though, they're incredibly tiny, nervous animals.  Something big and huge and predatory looking is constantly reaching down into and picking them up, they're bound to be somewhat aggressive, just to try and defend themselves.

Corn snakes will almost always outgrow this phase however, and as they get bigger they tend to get far less aggressive.  Handling will also help them get used to people, but they will never "like" it the way a dog or cat does.
