Its 1:30am at the moment and my corn snake (about 6-9 months old I think - bout a foot long anyway) is being very jittery, usually he's quite calm when I take him out of his viv but lately especially during the early hours of the morning he tends to not want to be in my hands. I'm always ever so gentle with him but now he's always trying to get onto my desk and away or up my arms and off my office chair that way. I get the feeling he doesn't mind me being there cause he nudges the top of his tank as if to say "I want some exercise now" but he's a little too...energetic. Is this normal behaviour for a young corn? and more importantly will he calm down to the point where I can handle him without him constantly trying to make a break for it?

  1. i like to handle my corn snake.  many girls also like to handle my corn snake.

  2. He is tring to get out.The reason he is searching is because hes hungry and can find any food in his cage.he will calm down

  3. yes he is young and you probably need to take him out more and he'll be less jittery.

  4. be patient and keep up with the handling. if you give up, you will wind up with a mean snake. Has he shed since you've had him? If not, watch for signs of shedding (muted colors, foggy eyes, you probably know the drill) alot of critters get really antsy right before they shed. It might just be that he is growing into adult snakehood and is developing his attitude a little more
