Question:

Why is my dog chewing things all of the sudden?

I've had him for 5 years and he's always been an exceptional dog but the last week or so hes taken to chewing my stuff! My shoe, make-up brushes, chapstick, etc. I also found somethings he's "stolen" from me and hidden under the bed. He's my baby & spoiled rotten so I don't know whats up. Although we did get a kitten about a month ago but they get along good and play all the time. Also, my boyfriend recently moved in but hes basically been living there for months now. Is he jealous? It breaks my heart to think he's jealous of either of them but he hasn't gotten any less attention since the changes. Thanks for your help!

  1. "He's my baby & spoiled rotten"

    "my boyfriend recently moved in"

    " a kitten about a month"

1 + 2 + 3 = a frustrated and jealous dog who is probably not getting the attention he feels he's entitled to! You may not THINK anything's changed, but he does! Check with a trainer or behaviorist to get some techniques to straighten this out!

  2. I think perhaps the most obvious answer would be new boyfriend, new kitten, less time for puppers, and he's not getting the exercise and interaction he needs and was used to.

If you don't entertain your dog, they will entertain themselves, and 99 times out of 100, humans don't like what a dog chooses to do to entertain itself.

  3. between the kitten and the boyfriend, the dog is getting less time with you, less attention.

It doesn't matter that he gets along well with the kitten, and, i hope, the boyfriend.  spend some quality time with the dog, every day. maybe playing his favorite game, every day, at the same time every day.

  4. I have 2 dogs..and when I got my second she was our baby 2.  I think it might be jealousy because our older dog did do things that I was shocked that he acted that way.  But he did go back to normal once he was used to things... hoped that helped!

  5. classic sign of vitamin deficiency! a balanced diet should solve the problem..ask your vet to give an idea of what should be included in his diet to make up for the deficiency.
