Why is my female black lab puppy so small?

She is 5 months old and only weighs 22 pounds. I don't understand why she isn't bigger. Both her mom and dad are labs, her mom is about medium size and her dad is pretty big. If you have a clue let me know.

  1. Make sure that you are feeding them puppy food not adult food. Puppy food will make them gain weight, and grow better.

  2. Forget what Colombia said... you should never ever feed a large breed dog puppy food. It could lead to rapid growth and joint problems. You do NOT want that. Your dog will get just as big on an adult food. I PROMISE. It could be that she is a runt... but if not, dogs grow at all different rates.. just like people do. Don't worry.. she could just be a slow bloomer. Is she de-wormed and UTD on her shots?

  3. She is still a puppy. Give her some time.  Also take her to the vet and make sure that she doesn't have any intestinal parisites. If a dog has worms then they may not be getting all the nutrition from their food.

The vet can also examine her for other health issues that could stunt her growth. She may be OK and will put on the weight later on, but it is best to check anyway.
