Why is my female budgies chewing up everything?

my 2 year old budgie shes a female she chews up all our books and paper she has a partner she is ready to breed. we have a cuttle bone in the cage for her to chew on but she chews on the window sill in stead what can i do?

  1. You can only keep her in the cage or get her a nestbox. I have this problem all the time. If you don't want the babies then run the eggs under very cold water after she finishes the brood and put them back until she gets bored with sitting on them. Then take them away. Your hen is acting normally.


  2. Please rethink breeding her. Do you know how many people breed their budgies? Do you realize how many budgies are in shelters and rescues right now? Please rethink and don't add to the overpopulation problem with backyard bred budgies.

    Yeah it sounds like perfect nesting behaviour and she is at the right age to want to breed. Hen budgies will chew any wood or newspaper as they use it for nesting.
