  1. because their nocturnal

  2. Because he's bored.

    Play with him.

  3. my hamster does that its there little place to relax and sleep and hang out and eat its fine

  4. like mentioned above, they are nocturnal. maybe you should try a wheel, some chew "toys", treats, or even a gerbil/hamster ball (I recommend limited, supervised use because this forces them to exercise!)

  5. It's his night time.

Just see him strut his stuff whilst you are asleep!

  6. It's bored - they are very sociable animals and really should not be alone - 2 or 3 of them really would be better.

  7. Gerbils are not nocturnal. They are diurnal (sleep and play as they see fit), hamsters are nocturnal.

Chances are your gerbil is doing nothing because he is bored and needs a cage mate to play with! Gerbils are highly social and they can become depressed without a friend.

Females can live in pairs. Since they come from a matriarchal society in the wild, it is advised NOT to put more than two females together. One will naturally be the dominant one while the other will be submissive. If there are more than two then they will try to establish a pecking order and it will turn into some nasty fights.

Males are more laid back and friendly. They are more than willing to accept other males and can happily live in large groups. I had 5 boys living with their 2 uncles one time and they got along famously! I've heard of larger groups doing just fine as well.

So, your first step is to s*x your gerbil. Here is a link with photos: http://www.petermaas.nl/gerbils/sexingge...

    Good luck!

  8. My gerbils did that for a while but after it is used to your schedule it will be like you are.
