Why is my guinea pig jumping around his cage? Is it normal, or is he just hyper?

  1. That jumping is called 'popcorning', a very normal behavior in happy guinea pigs. It's very common in young guinea pigs, but some will even popcorn as adults when they're very happy or excited. Sometimes they get excited because of hay or veggies, or other times they're just really hyper and get some exercise by popcorning around the cage. Whenever they popcorn its a good thing, though!


  2. If it's a big cage, with good bedding, and you might have just fed him--he's probably popcorning. It's what guinea pigs do when they're happy. :)

  3. well this is kinda normal but he maybe showing you that he needs more attention of a compainon you know guniea pigs should be bought in pairs they live longer and do better in pairsso maybe you soud get another one but make sure they like each other well i hope this help you oh but i dont think guniea pigs can get hyper maybe exited

  4. this is called popcorning

    this is often due to the guinneapig being bored in the cage get it a playmate or play with him more often let him out in the garden to tire him out a little

    you may find that some guinnea pigs do it when they are happy too

    i have five and when we let them out of the cage they all start to "popcorn" it is very amuzing!!
