Question:

Why is my gun firing both barrels?

I have a Bettinsoli shotgun (i know, but we aren't all rich toff wannabe's) which i bought for a little fun. Unfortunately, every now and then it will fire both barrels with one pull of the trigger. Any suggestions? It is still under warranty so i'm not too worried, but i was just wondering whether it may be something simple?

  1. Agree with Gunner.

Take the weapon in for servicing ASAP.

This was happening on a few stoeger's aas well (not on mine though). Some had to have it repaired.

and for the record...anything that fires more than one round with a single press of the trigger is considered a NFA weapon. yea... it sucks. So if my 1911 has a bad sear connection and touches off two ir three rounds... considered an illegal machine gun...

please get your weapon fixed ASAP.

  2. It is impossible to tell you what is wrong without looking at your gun.  I can tell you that something is definitely wrong since under no conditions should both barrels fire at the same time.  If it is still under warranty, send it back and get it fixed.  Do not shoot it any more until it has been repaired.

  3. may need cleaning

    sears may need some work

Wait - for reason below The only possible reason it fired twice was because you pulled both triggers (or pulled single trigger twice)

but I would clean it and have it checked out and then see if you are still double pulling on trigger

be careful - US federal court just ruled that a gun that fires more than one round when you pull trigger is a machine gun and jail time and heavy fines could result

    NO MATTER what caused it

  4. becareful of where you are putting your fingers when you touch off the first barrel, you may be flinching and hitting the second trigger, the rest is that the sear on the second barrel is weak of spring or broken entirely, take it to a qualified gunsmith for a check, if too much pressure builds up at the proper time, the barrels will literally end up around your ears and mess up your whole day

  5. I work at a large sporting goods store in Mich.

We have occasionally had a customer bring a gun in complaining of the exact thing you are asking.

Most of the time, we will take the gun in the back room, clean it and send him on his way...problem solved.

On a few occasions, the gun must be sent in for repair.  To a certified gunsmith.

Since your gun is under warranty, I would strongly suggest you send the gun back to the company for repair.

You may be without the gun for a few weeks, but that is the benefit of a warranty.

If you wait, until small game season gets going, the wait could be significantly longer.

    Good luck

  6. Be careful admitting that......

In the recient Olefson v US case the ATF testified that a malfunctioning firearm that fires more then one shot per trigger pull is a Machine gun, Olefson is serving 36 months in the Federal Pen for what you just admitted to online.

I would get it fixed ASAP. And maybe delete this post.
