Question:

Why is my hammy being clumsy? Is it serious?

I had one teddybear hammy before, but this ones more clumsy and falls over a bit more. Could this be something serious?

  1. How old is the hampster? Like everyone said could be the age. But I dont raise hampsters I raise rats. If he keeps doing it over a period of time I would take him to the vet. Could be an inner ear infection throwing his balance off. I wouldnt worry yet just watch him.


  2. It is perfectly normal. He must still be a young hamster and getting used to the cage and multi tiers in the cage. If you notice in pet shops, hamsters are kept in glass cages crowded without much space for each of them, hence they are not orientated to the space and levels of a cage. It will take him some time to discover and learn and I am sure he would get over his clumsiness in a few weeks.

  3. No. It's balance is probably just not focused yet. Give him/her some time, if it gets anymore worse I would try some excerises with it, maybe walking on a stick or ladder. Good question but you shouldn't be at all worried...
