I went upstairs to check on my hamster Tobey. I always check on him because I like to make sure he is always there. I went upstairs and he did his normal 'look at me, see me there then chew on the cage a bit' well, I noticed that he was itching under is belly, he does that a lot but them I noticed he was itching very hard and then biting where it itched. Is he ok? I mean I put him in the hamster sand to clean his fur because he was oily but that was about a week ago. I'm scared. I don't want him to die. =[

  1. It sounds like fleas or mites- they can get mites from their bedding and fleas from their surroudings or other animals.

Some pet shops carry a flea drop on for hamsters- you can see if you can find that and try it on him.

Otherwise, you can also get insect-killing, hamster safe shampoos, and you can give him a bath- you just need to make sure he is TOTALLY dry or he may catch cold.

  2. aww i hope he's ok. i like hamster too but i dont actually own one. your description is very cute :D

  3. bring him to the vet

  4. its possible that he has fleas, don't get too worried but if you still want a professional opinion you might want to take him to the vet.

    -Best of luck

  5. i think it may be sick...

  6. Check the spot.

It could just be a rash or something that'll go away eventually, but just incase you can ask someone's opinion.

  7. 1. Your hampster has obviously been abducted and had a small microchip placed into his belly button area.

    2. He is allergic to the hampster dust.

    3. He has a parasite on him that is causing him discomfort.

    4. He is lonely and is wanting attention....and it's working

    Any of the above

  8. He's alright. Maybe he accidently hurt himself. Or you! Cuz when i hold onto my hamster's leg for a long time, it starts to hurt and he starts biting it. Non stop. I think it's okay. He'll get better later. If he continues to do this for a long time, well then i'm not sure. Check with the vet if your seriously that worried. And i doubt he'll die. Or either the hamster sand has some effect. Try using the hamster powder. You sprinkle it over you hamster you squeeze it out of the bottle. But you don't have to touch it's tummy. You can get it at the pet shop. It's more expensive though. But more convenient.  Or maybe you didn't provide CLEAN food for you hamster which can cause stomach problems and maybe bugs like mites or parasites in vegetables/fruits. Hope your hamster is okay! =]

    Hope this  helps.

  9. My hamster does that sometimes, but not hard. If you really are worried take him to the vet. If your not too worried see how he acts for a couple days.

  10. he's got aids

    lmfao
