Why is my hosta turning brown?

Some of the leaves on my hosta are turning brown and dying. I water it every day. Why is this happening? It seems like leaves on only half the plant are turning brown and the other half is normal...

Too much water!! No need to water everyday...especially since hosta is a shade-loving plant. It does not need daily watering.

Based on my own experience with my hostas, you may be over watering. This time of year my hostas are usually dying out for the summer because of the heat. But this year they are growing fine. We have had plenty of rain this year I didn't water mine at all.

Mulch the hosta's, and  try watering them thoroughly

every four or five days.

I'm getting to see them bloom this year.

It sounds like you have a bug.

To get rid of the bug, put pure ivory soap into a bucket and mix with water until it completely dissolves. Next, water the plant with it, and pour it on the leaves.

You need to move it to full shade, it's being burned.

Don't know where you live but if they are just turning brown now, it could be just simply because their growing season is coming to an end and they are getting ready to die until they come back again next year.

Also, stray animals like cats like to lay in and sometimes urinate in hosta --- it's happened to me many times.  That could also be a possible cause and, unfortunately, there's not much you can do about that except hope that the stray cat (or neighbor's cat) finds another place he likes better.  I used to find a cat sleep in my hosta plants.
