We have had the A/C checked out and and had a radiant heat barrier installed in the attic, yet the house remains 80 plus degrees even when the A/C is set on 75.

  1. This may seem stupid, but....have you recently replaced the batteries in your thermostat? Most models require them. I only suggest this because my neighbor had the same problem earlier in the spring and after a thorough going over of his A/C system (and everything was fine) I checked his thermostat and found that the batteries were old. His A/C worked perfectly after that! Otherwise, jeanette n's answer would be the next logical thing to look in to. Good luck!

  2. Do you have heavy curtains on the windows to block out the sun? Keep all unneccessary lights off during the day, and check the BTUs on your A/C is sufficent to cool the square footage in your house. I live in an old brick apartment building on the top floor, and we keep it cool by opening windows at night, then my boyfriend closes them and puts the shades down on his way out the door at 6 am, we're usually 10-15 degrees cooler at noon than outdoors. Good luck!

  3. We had the same problem. Check the A/C lines. One of them might be disconnected. This is something A/C machanics rarely check and can easly be dislodged  by small rodents or in our case the cat. If you check out your lines and find out that its disconnected it can easly be fixed with the all powerful duc tape.Stay cool.
