Why is my ice all shattered

Question

Whenever I go to pop it out of the tray, the pieces are all shattered and stuck to the tray. I don't need advice on how to stop this from happening, I just wanted to know WHY it happened. Is my water full of minerals? Is it because I stack the trays? I want a scientific explanation.

Oh that's so annoying! I'ts happened to me plenty of times. I think it has something to do with stacking the trays but I could never figure it out so I just went to Target and bought some new ice cube trays. The new ones seem to be working fine. You could also try this lady's suggestion at the link. I think it would just be easier to buy new trays though lol.
