Why is my iguana sleeping in the waterdish?

Pretty much as it reads. We have built an outside enclosure for her, but at night, often she will get in her water dish and sleep with her nostrils resting about the surface. Is this safe for her? Will it harm her skin in any way?

  1. Silly igs ... my girl sometimes sleeps w/ her head on her food dish.

I've heard of other iguanas sleeping in there water dish also, why I honestly couldn't tell you.

Don't know if remove most of the water would make her want to sleep there still or not, but maybe would be safer. Does she sleep in the water dish all the time or just sometimes?

Do you provide a water pan for your ig outside? Maybe she thinks that being outside drys out her skin in a way, so she's like rehydrating her skin ... it's hard to say why igs do the silly things they do.

It shouldn't harm her skin, since igs soak in water and use water as there restroom.
