Question:

Why is my insurance so high?

I have something on my insurance claim record, (Comprehensive claim for broken windshield in the amount of $508), that has been on there for over 5 years. Every time I get insurance, the cost almost doubles when this claim comes up. How long is this stuff supposed to stay on there, and if it is supposed to be gone, how to I get it off so my insurance will go down? Please HELP!!!

  1. i you have to do is pay it off and it will go away

  3. One comprehensive claim that is over 5 years old WILL NOT cause your insurance to double.  Most of the online quote engines take your input at face value and will give you an estimate of your premium based on nothing more than what you have told them.  Once you go to firm it up they run your MVR, CLUE, and your credit report.  Combined with the information you gave them, that gives them your "insurance score" and that is what is causing the premium to increase.

I agree with a previous responder that you should seek out an actual agent to quote your insurance.  They normally won't give out a quote until ALL of the information is gathered and that eliminates those nasty surprises.

  4. Because it's on your CLUE report. And since it was a comp claim and NOT a collision claim, this really should have no ill effect on your premium. Go talk to an agent because computers are dumb.

  5. The main things that contribute to auto insurance premiums being high are:

    1. Your age - especially if you are under 25 - once you cross age 25, expect premiums to go down or at least stop going up.

    2. The number of moving violations you've had (ie: any ticket issued because of something you did while driving).  - If you have a bunch of speeding tickets, that goes on your driving record which the insurance companies access to set your rates.  If that's true for you, you can offset that a little by taking a defensive driving class.

    3. The deductible you chose.  The lower the deductible, the higher the insurance costs.  I would go with a $500 or even $1000 deductible and have a credit card you only use for emergencies to cover that if necessary.

    4. The number of claims you've filed.

    5. Having periods of time with no insurance.  They see you as a high risk if you sometimes go for a while between insurance companies.

1 claim from 5 years ago would not cause your insurance to double, so there must be something else going on here.

I would also shop around online.  You can quickly & easily get quotes online from Esurance, Geico and many others.  I've had both of those and Progressive, and Geico was by far the best and least expensive, and Progressive was the worst; especially when I actually had a problem.

You can also cut out some of the duplicate coverage if you have it.  If you have comprehensive & collision, you don't need uninsured motorist.  If you have health insurance, then you don't need the medical part of auto.  Dropping those will save you money too.

  6. There's something they call a 'clue report'. Things stay on your clue repor for 7 years, even if it is paid. You said it's been on there for 5 yrs, so another 2 to go! After that your insurance should go down a considerable amount.

  7. this is from  a clue report.  this is also a comp claim for what looks like a repalced winshield.  this should NOT double your premium.  in fact, it really should have NO bearing on your premium.  if this was a collsion claim it would be different.  my advice to you is this...GET OFF LINE and go see an actual independent agent in your area.  I NEVER advise people to get there insurance online for MANY reasons and this is just another example.  this will stay on his report for 5 yrs and even if it WAS chargable (which it isn't) after 3 yrs it wouldn't be anymore.

  8. Because Teens and Twenty somethings are LOUSY DRIVERS.... not just BAD drivers... but REALLY LOUSY... they think they are such great drivers that they over drive their puny abilities... they think because they can point a car down the road, mash the gas pedal and go fast they are wonderful drivers... but if something happens where they have to actually DRIVE THE CAR... they CAN'T DO IT..

So they end up in more than their share of wrecks and they pay high insurance because of their LACK OF ABILITY.. not to mention arrogance and stupidity
