Why is my internet connection slow?

I recently replaced my cable modem at an Optimum store since my old one had fried. I just plugged everything in, and my internet started working again. However, it is suddenly very slow and is not nearly as fast as it was with my previous cable modem even though they are the same exact model and the provider is the same. Even the router is the same. It has been like this for a couple of days. Why has my internet connection suddenly slowed down? Did I install the new cable modem incorrectly or does the router need to be set up with the new cable modem? Any help would be appreciated.

  1. Yes.    

    Your cable modem only recognizes one mac address.  

    If that's not the one that you have your router cloning, then you might have a problem.

    Also, you might wanna go to each computer and reset each ip address.   This is different for each version of windows, so...


  2. maybe you should download some good anti virus and got verizon fios i have it and it is great get your computer memory upgraded might help too

  3. Check your speed at http://www.speedtest.net.  Unless Optimum has very different speeds on different segments you should get close to 15mbps down and around 2mbps up (or better).  (Check what you're supposed to be getting - those are the numbers I've been seeing since spring.)

    If you don't, call tech support - even level 1 can probably get you fixed up.  (One of the reasons I stay with them - great tech support.  Which happens to be located around the corner from where I'm typing this.)

  4. I think it is of the temporary internet files.

    Delete them,it should work.

    OR

    May be the provider connection is slow or it is not completely log-ind.

    It is difficult to say without seeing your computer.

    Install fire fox,its the best.

  5. May be you can download a anti-virus softare to scan your computer firest. If found nothing. You can clean your system and try to connectiong again.
