Why is my kitty so vicious?

She bites and pounces all day. She's constantly on the hunt for me or anything else she can wrap her paws around. However she can be such a sweetheart at times and likes to l**k and snuggle and even insists on sleeping in bed with me at night. She's so cute but I don't know how much more scratches I can take. Also, she likes water and actually gets wet some way or another on a daily basis.

  1. she wants to play.

if she is under about 6 months old, consider a second kitten. they will amuse each other.

otherwise, toys, lots of toys. string tied to doorknobs, paper bags, cardboard boxes, tents made out of blankets and furniture, caves in closets, anything that rolls, chew toys, stuffed animals.

  2. This is your first kitten?  She sounds like a perfectly normal young lady that doesn't get enough excersize otherwise. She's trying to include her human in the fun. get a cat-fishing wand and/or a laser penlight (don't shine it in her eyes!) to help her play with you without hurting you. Also, if she's being mean about it, say "OUCH'  when she bites you and turn your back on her. If she's just 'marking' you, a gentle nip or holding your finger in her mouth without biting hard or making the meat-tearing motion of a pissed-off kitty, just hold your hand still and croon to her. She'll let you go soon, and it won't hurt as much as if you get pissed at her and yank your hand away.

My kitten was a feral-rescue as a wee kitten and I got her at 14 weeks. She still have the sensitivity of the ferals, so it's taken me a while to understand her subtleties. The eyes and ears are the give away. if the ears are flat or flagged to the sides and her eyes are dialated, she's over-stimulated. if I say "ouch!", she'll spit my finger out like it's got chili powder on it and bolt away, to come back a little while later much calmer. If we're having a quiet snuggle and she takes the webbing between my thumb and forefinger in her mouth, she just holds it there with no pressure. Sometimes she'll even start purring as she looks up at me with my hand in her mouth.

  3. Best thing to do if you're having trouble with her biting you is to press down on her tongue with your finger. I know it sounds harsh and I was even hesitant to try it myself when I first heard of it,  but it does not harm the cat and after only a few times doing it she will stop. I've never met a kitten who hasn't stopped biting when it's done correctly.

The pouncing is just normal instinctive cat behavior that all kittens do. They are natural predators and must practice pouncing instinctively, you should invest in some safe kitten toys for her to enjoy. Every time she pounces you give her a stern "NO" and direct her attention to a toy.

  4. Aw !!!  You should enjoy it I am assuming she is a kitten?  And if she is shes going threw that stage it Will stop i have scars all over my hands from when one of my cats was a kitten and I don't regret it!! :)

  5. all cats do this.  My cat act like shes gonna bite me, but never has.  One time she actually had my finger in her mouth and still didnt bite me.
