Why is my laptop slow ?

it has a 1500 mhz processor and 25 gbs of memory left. if this seems ok what can i do to speed it up?

laptops are slow anyway.

you can try deleting all your prefetch data ( start > run > type in prefetch then click on ok ) (delete all you find here) and clear your browser of all junk,use ccleaner for this.http://www.piriform.com/2008/8/25/cclean...

you might need to defrag  and clean it up if you have only 25gbs of memory left that your problem you have to much stuff on it and everything is slowing it down too many games and etc. that could be another reason, uninstall any games that you don't play anymore and clean up the hd and that should work

You don't say if it used to be faster or whether you're talking about the computer itself or internet speed.

Too many variables to guve you any advice.

Google for and get a program called "ccleaner" which will remove a lot of junk.

If you don't have more than 1GB of memory it's never a mistake to get some more but that may well not be your problem.

EDIT: You say you have 248MB RAM (which is basically 256MB). That is way too little for XP or Vista to run smoothly. Get at least 1GB. This sounds like an old laptop. Make sure you find the right RAMs (in your manual or google for the model number) because you almost certainly need old DDR RAMs rather than DDR2 RAMs.

How much RAM have you got in your computer? As if you can upgrade your computers RAM anymore then it can considerably increase your computers performance.

Lots of things, many things, my friend.

A slow speed could be attributable to many things in your computer, including not enough RAM, poor graphics card, slow hard drive or fragmented hard drive. For the first 2, there is no other way except actually buying the RAM or graphics card and adding them to your computer.

EDIT: Laptop graphics cards cannot be changed, so cancel the previous idea, but the RAM is still good.

For your hard drive, go to My Computer and then right-click on the hard drive you are using and select properties. From there, in the Tools tab, you can defragment the hard drive which speeds up the time information is accessed in your laptop.

Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to Windows Task Manager. Here you can find, under the Processes tab, all the processes that are going on in your computer. If you do not need any of the processes at that point, select them and stop the, but do not stop anything labeled 'System'.

There are many other things to do, just search Google on how to speed up your computer. There are many online guides.

If your virus/spyware free, there are  a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space.Here is how:
