i was hitting pop ups to my friends then my left-lower back started to hurt now it's been 5 days with the pain. I've tried Bengay, Aspirin, and laying of anything that hurts my back.

Should i do something else or is it going to go away it's the muscle hurting not the backbone.

  1. Maybe you should drink PLENTY of water. I go through those same things and its because of lack of drinking water. If it feels like it tightens up when you breath every now and then, then yeah thats what it is. Hope this helps.

  2. Sounds like you strained (pulled) a muscle in your back, and yes it should heal on it's own.

What you should have done is RICE for 24-48 hours after the injury. That is Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.  The first 3 should be all you need, as elevating your back is not practical.

Now that your at day 5 and still in pain try contrast of ice to heat to break the cycle of inflammation and pain in the muscle. 20 min of ice, 20 min of heat. both should reduce the pain.

After the heat try some gentle static stretching hold for 30 seconds at the point of discomfort then relax for 10-15 seconds. Repeat 3-5 times.  When your done go back to the ice.

Give your self 2-3 more days of this and if it is not better, go to the doctor and get checked, you may have something more serious than a pulled muscle.

PS - The Bengay and aspirin may have actually made the inflammation in the muscle worse.  Bengay draws blood into the area, and aspirin is a blood thinner when your in the initial stage of inflammation this allows more blood to collect. Had you treated with ice you most likely would be healed by now.
