Question:

Why is my male betta not eating and roaming around the bottom of the fish tank?

I had him (Etty) for 7 months now. He ate anything the food I fed him right away and he always followed my around his tank pleeding for more food (I think). But ever since last week, he started hiding in one particular shell.

I also got two other bettas. Just saying just in case. XP They are in different tanks. One is a three gallon tank (which Etty was in), the other one is the cheap one I got when I bought a red-eared slider (I know they are illegal to sell now). The last one is just a pretty looking glass jar(?). Everytime I change the water, I put them in different tanks (I like them to take turns).

CAN ANYONE HELP ME?! I already lost one betta I don't want to lose another one! :'(

  1. You need to get him into a filtered heated tank....he needs water about 78-81 degrees and a tank of at least 2.5 gallons...5 gallons or larger is better. He is probably suffering from poor water quality as it sounds like the tanks are not cycled. He is also going threw stress every time you change him to a new home. You need to do a 50 % water change everyday with declored same temp water when a betta is in a small jar or unfiltered small tank....good luck.

  2. Does he know the food is out there when he hides or not? If you haven't tried this yet, put the food in the flow of filter so that it sinks to the bottom where he can recognize it.

Also it may be stress related. Changing his enviorment every so often may be confusing him and causing him to worry about his security (which may be why he hides in the shell).

Whenever you change the water, put him back into the tank (or jar?) he already was in.

Do this for a couple days and see if his mood improves. Good luck!

  3. hes depressed because hes in a little jar. duhh

and its jsut a fish and there only like 5 dollars whata  bank breaker. when it dies go with salt fishes thwere cooler and only like 200-600 each well worth it

  4. do you have heaters

bettas are tropical fish so to be happy and healthy they need heaters
