Why is my new feul pump whining,97 chevy g1500 van

I dropped the tank and replaced my pump assy.the tank was clean inside,do i have an air leak

One of the reasons the fuel pump failed in the first place was that the in-line fuel filter was plugged.  Replace it before you burn up another very expensive (let alone hard to replace) fuel module.

All fuel pumps make a slight whining noise. It all depends on the location of the fuel pump if you'd be able to hear it or not.
