Question:

Why is my outboard overheating?

The overheat buzzer keeps going off. The water is coming out of the telltale hole. I changed the thermostats for new ones, I checked the waterpump and it's working fine. The engine buzzer goes off almost instantly - not after running for a while. What's my next step?

  1. Replace the temperature sensor.

  2. You know that the motor isn't hot immediately after starting it and the water is being circulated through the motor, as evidenced by the tell-tale hole- therefore the sensor needs replacing.

  3. Maybe something got sucked into the water intake or the sensor is faulty.
