Question:

Why is my oven growing wool?

I have a fairly old gas freestanding upright oven and i noticed recently a yellow substance that has similar properties to wool under the stove top. I cleaned it out and gave the inside and out of the oven a thorough cleaning. Barely 2 days later the "wool" was back.... not the same amount as before but still a significant amount for 2 days. What is causing this problem? Could it be linked to the recent outbreak of mice?

  2. I have an old Magic Chef gas oven that has yellowish wool like insulation, which is what it sounds like you are describing. It is round the back, front door, sides, top, and bottom. I found it when I completely rebuilt the oven, so it is fairly hard to get to.

I imagine the mice might find that is makes good lining for their nests.
