Why is my pc telling me to activate windows xp?

I've had this laptop for four years and now I'm being told to activate windows xp. It was never connected to the internet b/c I only use it for word and storage.

I can't get past the log-in screen. As soon as I turn it on, there's a message telling me to activate windows xp. When I clicked ok, it told me to activate through Microsoft's site or by phone.

I want to know why it's doing this.

  1. This could happen when you recently upgrade the hardware like graphic card, processor and so on or your XP serial number is misused by someone

  2. This could be due to the expiry of the software. For example the key which was provided to you might work for only four years and which has to be activated by calling either to the number provided or from microsoft site.

This is something like licensed trial version for 4 years.

try to do the same and also may have occured due to the installation of new service packs into the laptop.

Am sure once you call to that number and activate the problem will be rectified to you...
