Question:

Why is my period STILL not regular?

I got my first period in spring 2006 (at age 13) and over two years later, I'm still not regular! I don't think I've ever had periods that were less than two months apart, and I think that's the closest they've ever been. I think my last period was in May. I'm not complaining, I hate periods just as much as the next girl, but I'm just worried that there's something wrong. I get clear discharge every day, and twice I've had brown discharge for a few days at a time.

Is this normal? Abnormal? Is there something wrong with me?! I don't want to talk to my mom about it, because she's one of those moms who's really awkward, and then she'd take me to our creepy-Russian-old-man doctor. I know doctors are just there to do their job and blah blah blah, but he just creeps me out and I want a female doctor.

Argh, I really need to stop rambling. Sorry.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

  1. Some women are never regular (even into adulthood).  For some women (myself included) taking birth control is the only way to have some regularity.

  2. I'm still having irregular periods, some women just do, its probably nothing to worry about.  Although its a pain because you can't predict when your going to come on, (or tell when your late)!  If you wanted to see a doctor, you can ask for a woman if there is one at your GPs.

  3. you might have a lazy ovary

which means you get your period every other month because only one ovary releases eggs. you should get checked out, tell your mom to find you a lady gyno

  4. You are still young and looks your life is stressful.

Sometimes young girls have difficult period from first menstruation up to fully developed regular menstrual cycles. It will take some time to fully develop your mature regular menstrual cycle. Please be also informed that in general menstrual cycles are very sensitive to stress, emotional situations, infections, medication, etc.

Just be patient. Usually by 18-20 year the menstrual cycle will be fully development, your hormones will develop your own (personal) cycle and your menstrual cycle will be regular.

Read everything about irregular periods below (don't miss anything!)

  5. You're totally normal! Don't worry about it. Everybody is different and it will take some people longer than others to become regular.
