Question:

Why is my piercing still crusty?

I got an industrial piercing done in April. It now been 4 months. It's still crusty. It doesn't hurt that bad anymore but it is constantly crusty. Is it normal? My brothers girlfriend got hers done a couple weeks before me and her crusties stopped a long time ago. She just got her other ear done like 3 weeks ago and that has already stopped too. Am I doing something wrong?

  1. This sounds normal, some people heal differently than others, while some have crusties disapper within 1 month others can take up to several months. Clear or slightly white discharge and crusties are nothing but dead blood cells and a sign of healing. Just make sure to cleanse the area atleast 2-3 times a day w/ warm sea salt water. Don't twist the jewelry especially if the crusties aren't wiped away gently w/ the sea salt soak first, the crusties can easily irritate a healing piercing causing complications. Good Luck.

P.S  Don't put any harsh chemicals on your piericing such as Alcohol, peroxide, neosporin, bactine, etc. these products can clog and dry out your piercing causing infection and delayed healing. All a piercing needs to be healthy is warm sea salt water, you can also cleanse the area w/ warm water and non-scented soap.

  2. Different people react differently to piercings and metal in their skin. I remember how mad I was after I got my belly button pierced that 6 months to a year later it was still infected and my best friend got hers done way after mine and it cleared up after only a few weeks. Just don't stop cleaning it. I had stopped cleaning mine cuz I assumed it only had to be done for a few weeks. But really you should keep cleaning it everyday with solution until it it entirely cleared up. Since its been 4 months you can probably take it out and clean it. If its hard to get back in after cleaning it I found that coating the piercing and the area with neosporin really helps to put it back in and helps in healing. Also you  might check to see if you are allergic to the type of metal the piercing is made of. Im allergic to nickel so I have to buy nickel free piercing. Try all that and if it still doesn't start clearing up I would go back to the place where you got it pierced and ask em. Good luck.. remember it takes a long time to heal piercing. Sometimes years. :)

  3. it will clear up in its own time, don't worry about it. industrial piercings can take anything up an year to stop crusting up so it's normal. just don't play with it too much and don't forget to clean it daily.

  4. It's infected and you need to get it removed.

  5. it probably just needs to be clean. take it out && put some rubbing alcohol on it and it will clean it and wont be crusty anymore.

  6. its normal, could take upto a year, don't worry...if you need more advice go back to the piercer!:-)

    clean it with salt water!

  7. I had crusties for a whole 2 years after getting my nips pierced but when i finally took em both out for good the crusties disappeared within 12 hours.  All i know is that it can go on for years and i don't know why.
