  1. Look and see if any puppies are coming out.  If so, she's in labor.  If not, ask a vet.

  2. She may be overheated or she may be starting to go into labor.

  3. if your dog is getting close to giving birth, this will happen and it's normal.  Also it's very warm outside and the heat is hard on pets especially those who are pregnant.  So, make sure she's got a lot of water to drink, a comfy place to sleep, and keep her in a nice cool place (air conditioned if possible).  She'll be more comfortable that way!  Good luck!

  4. Your dog is going into the first stage of delivery.  I certainly hope that you know someone who has experience with these situations, as many things can go wrong.  Hopefully you had a vet check your dog to see how many puppies that there is, and a number to reach him.  Provide her with a quiet place, put papers down and stick quietly by her side.

  5. If she is close to her term being up, she is probably going into labor. My dogs did this prior to delivery. You can look for other sighns: is she looking for a quiet dark place, seem a bit anxious, straining and or l*****g at her v****a? These are all possible symptoms.

If she is, help her find a comfortable place and if she likes your company stay quietly with her. She will do the rest. Really nature is amazing and her body will do what it needs to do. It is best to let it happen as it will. It is sometimes tempting to help and pull the puppy out for her but this isn't a good idea, she may tear or you could tear the umbilical cord and the puppy could sufficate. she should be able to get it out on her own. The first puppy always takes the longest to get out.

The things to watch for are that she responds to the puppy shortly after delivery to clean it and make sure it is breathing. If the umbilical is still attached it is still getting oxygen from mom. If it is broken here is were you can help if you want to put the puppy up by her face (she may already be working at things anyway) and/or it is okay to carefully break the membrane around the puppys nose if it isn't already. Just be careful and gentle. She will likely eat the membrane and later the placenta. (It is okay to take that away after she bites the umbilical cord, they will somethimes throw up after and that makes quite a mess, some say it is a good source of renewed protien for mom so personal preference or what your vet suggests.)

There will be anywhere from 30min to 2 hours between puppies. Some vets don't want there to be that much time so you should check with yours to see what they recomend. The worst thing is to have a retained puppy ( one that can't get out) if this happens they will have to help her with drugs or surgery. This is pretty rare however.

It is okay to offer her some sips of water and a bit of food. (it takes a lot of energy to labor and deliver!) I always brought it right to my mommy dogs so they wouldn't have to leave the nest.

Congradulations on your new furry family members. hope this helps.

  6. because every little thing she does is double the stress

  7. She is tired and exhausted for carrying her litter. The babies are kicking =)  How long has it been? Is she close to giving birth? I would suggest that u don't exert her energy too much. exercise is good for her but not too much in that stage. Always take care of her and keep a close eye on her. I hope u have a cute and happy litter ^-^
