  1. its horny! lol dad might eat them careful

  2. carefull, when i had gerbils the father ate all the babies.

  3. I am not sure why this behavior is going on, but it is advisable to separate the adult male from the mother and pups.  Leaving the adult male in increases the chances of the pups being eaten.

  4. usually when a baby does that to a parent it means that they are begging for food. so the baby may be asking the dad to give him some food. it can also be a submissive bahavior. letting the dominant know he is respected and is still in power. and id be careful putting the babies and father together. rodent fathers tend to kill babies. but ive never had gerbils, so that may not be the case for them.

  5. well, they are problay communicating wiht each other but be careful the father mihgt eat the baby.

  6. because they love the head of the family...FATHER

  7. That's how Gerbils greet each other, they are tasting each others saliva, kind of like dogs smell each others behinds. If you see the father gerbil smelling the pups belly he's just smelling the bare furred patch which is a scent gland. That's how wild gerbils greet themselves in the wild desert, when they encounter each other they smell and taste each other so they know if they have met before, and if they haven't they will battle.

You shouldn't worry about it, as long as the father gerbil doesn't start biting or eating(:S) the pups, he's probably just getting to know the pup, and show love, and affection.

  8. well u could be mistaking for the mom but if  u sure its the dad then might just trying to be nice but im not sure the gerbl is putting its mouth to cuz they do like huddling

  9. when gebils do this it is their way of saying hello or showing affection. the gerbils are also probably just smelling each other and becoming used to each others scent. it is very normal and nothing to worry about.
