Why is my puppy waving her head around?

My puppy is 5 1/2 months old and a french bulldog. I have been noticing for the past month or so if she is in her crate or just in the house, she will start doing what I call the "stevie Wonder" not being mean, but she waves her head around like that. It is bizarre, and I can't tell if something is wrong, or if she is bored, smelling something.. sometimes she will do a little puppy growl, but no one is near her. I will be sitting on the coach, and she will be right by my feet doing the "Stevie Wonder" She is normal in every other way, plays with the dog and cat in the house, eats, drinks sleeps, happy little pooch,... I just don't know what the heck is with the weird head thing!

  1. I would try to get it on video and then take the dog to the vet along with the video. It sounds like it could be some sort of seizure.

  2. It's called scooting and it could be due to several factors: (1) tapeworms, perhaps, as this is a puppy... You would see the worms in the f***s, however, but the veterinarian should probably analyze a stool sample... If that isn't it, it could be anal glands... Granted, it's more common in males, but the anal glands may need to be expressed and cleaned... Some dogs can express their anal glands on their own within a few days, but then they stop scooting... Then there's always the possibility of a flea infestation... Because French Bulldogs are dwarfed, they can't reach around and bite themselves like other dogs, so they scoot to relieve the itch... And, lastly, scooting can also be a manifestation of behavioral issues (boredom, O/C/D, etc.) to more serious health-related issues such as Cushing's Disease or problems with the adrenal glands, but these problems don't tend to flare-up until a dog is older and tend to be accompanied by air-l*****g...

Let's hope it's tape-worms, anal glands or fleas as these are all easily treatable within a couple of weeks.

    Best wishes with your puppy,

    TM

  3. she wants attention.

  4. since its so random I would had to agree with Dances... sounds like minor seizures. Head bobs and ticks are usually neurotic. Inner ear infections normally cause head shaking, drooling, and skewed walking, or walking like they are drunk. I'd have her on for an epilepsy check. Doesn't sound like it would be severe enough to require constant meds but just be on the safe side and get her check out soon.

TM I doubt its worms unless this dog is SCOOTING ON ITS HEAD???? did you read the question thoroughly or are you answering the wrong one??

  5. Sounds to me like an inner ear infection or imbalance that makes it dizzy all the time.
