Why is my rat's eye turning red?

I noticed a few days ago that my rat's left eye is turning red.I thought at first it was just porphyrin leaking from his eye but when i looked closer I saw that it was inside the eye and nothing was left on a tissue when I touched the eye with it.This has just happened recently and none of my other rats have it.He doesn't have any other problems and he doesn't act like it bothers him but I was just curious about it.

Thanks.Any advice other than "take him to the vet" is appreciated.

  4. Does he seem to see out of that eye?

Test by waving or touching him from that side- if he flinches, he may not see so well.

I know that rats that are born with pink/red eyes have bad eye sight, just like any other animal with those colour eyes, so maybe he's had trauma to it and is going blind in that eye- or at least not seeing so well- or something similar to that.
