  1. edit 4th reply:

    Whooops...my error...14 WEEKS, sorry

Melafix?....ok, remove the filter carbon cartridge, they contain activivated charcoal that will absorb the Melafix

....but, if the water filters have cycled 2 weeks, they need more time to colonize

...so, as the water filters have cycled 14 or 15 weeks, then increase water changes....30% every 3 days, till the ammonia spiking business (that i am obviously fixated on in my analogy) is finished

...i know your 'water readings' are good, and of course, i aks myself, how often those readings take place, and if they are taken less than 48 hours after a water change has been made

....also, what type of test kit is used? is it done at hom or in a pet store....

....may i also, suggest ading more living plants, too, especialy the grassy kinds...they will absorb a lot of ammonia...and release CO2 that will nourish the aerobic bacteria that will eat nitrites

.....eventually the water filters, as well as, the gravel coloniz with anaerobic bacterias that eat nitrAtes, but so do plants

...more plants and frequent water changes is my feeling at this point

    edit 2nd reply:

'oh, the original info stated 14 wek old new tank'

....how about water changes? how often and % are you changing?

...my goldfish, which i kept 5 years, then adopted them to my nephew, who still has them all, included fantails as well as 2 comets....the comets eventually created such a mess, so often, i placed them in their own tank....therein, i noticed an immediate difference....the fantails created less mess...meanwhile the comets were 'always' needing a water change...they were all over 3 to 4 inches by then......so

    their ammonia output was enormous

    first reply:

...is it a "Goth' ryukin? ( and peer shubunkin)

    ....oh, sorry

.....based on what you tell us about atypical norms in a fully cycled tank, regarding the brown algae, it sounds to me like the tank is still cycling....so change 30% of water every 2 to 3 days, for another week or two....lemme see, hmmm 309 liters = ~82 gallons....oh yes, for sure it is still cycling

...your tank will cycle for at least a month (possibly 6-weeks)

....but keep up the water changes

...sounds like everything else you do is perfect

...and 'the tank must be sumptuous to see'

...do you have any pics of the tank yet?

    Best of Wishes,
