i had scoliosis surgery more than a month ago. incision was on the side of the stomach. the skin around my stomach is still numb and it feels weird. when i pinch the top layer i cant feel it but when i press down on it it kinda hurts. does anyone know why or whether it will become normal?

also i find that my stomach is becoming hairy (ew i know) its just light normal body hair but i used to not have it. could it have anything to do with the surgery? whats the deal?

Thanks for answering!!

  1. I had two operations to remove part of my fibula due to a bone tumour. The numbness has never went away. This is because the nerves got damaged during the operations. If after two years there is still numbness then the numbness will never go away. The nerves have been known to repair themselves two years after the op. Anyway chin up.

  2. I think the numbness is just an after effect. My friend had a surgery a week ago and until now he feels dizzy. As for the hairy stomach, I think (and only think) that the surgery accelerated your hormones (or something like that).

  3. Your surgeon cut through nerves when making the opening in your stomach.  That's why it is numb.  It hurts when you press down on it because it hasn't entirely healed yet.  Lastly, It will be about 30 years, give or take, to get feeling back.  It takes that long for the nerves to grow back.

For example, I had my appendix out when I was in third grade.  It took well into my 30's before I could feel everything.  In fact, the scar has totally faded.  Your scoliosis scar will also fade over time.

I have no idea about the hair.  Sorry.

  4. it always will be numb

  5. my mum has had her numbness for about 2 years now :( sux
