  1. If you're using your own cue, try changing the tip, something a little softer, it will get a little better grip on the ball.  If you're using a house stick, then you're forced to use whateve they put on, which is usually pretty cheap.  What you can do in either case is to carry a scuffer with you.  that will let you ruff up the tip so it will hold chalk better and give you better leverage on the ball when you shoot.  You shouldn't need to be more than the width of the tip off center to generate spin in most cases.  a good way to practice is to practice with only the cue ball on the table, set it near the foot rail and strike at one of the diamonds on the head rail, this can be directly across from you, with your desired spin, as it comes off the cushion you'll see how much the ball moves one side or the other.

    Have fun and good luck

  2. hit low on the cue ball.

a lot of people make the mistake of going for power on a deep draw/s***w shot but at the end of the day the key thing is hitting the cue ball very low. focus on the cue ball as you strike the ball and watch where your tip actually hits. if it's on the bottom provided you hit the shot at anything above an average speed, it will spin back.

as for sidespin, forget it in snooker at this level. at most apply just a little outside english (running english) to help whip the cue ball round the cushions sometimes, but apart from that you don't need it. master the centre axis first.

  3. I'm am not a snooker player but maybe i can help you . You must hit the cue ball below center , keep your stick as level as possible and yes, you must follow through, stroke through the cue ball as smoothly as possible. Do not jerk your stick back , like a lot of people do, this severely lessens the amount of draw that you get.

  4. Yes....following through is the key to backspin along with a good tip, chalk, level cue, low hit and a sound stroke.   Have a predetermined destination for the tip of your cue that is well beyond where the cueball is resting.   The real trick to achieving good spin is to accelerate through your stroke.   The acceleration will maintain tip/ball contact slightly longer than a stroke at a constant speed.  Practice with a striped or otherwise marked ball where you can actually see the spin.

  5. You need to have a decent cue and the tip needs to be in good condition and chalked properly.  If that is not the problem, then you need to practice and refine your technique.
