I think that this is going to be the fifth time this SUMMER that my throat is sore. Every single time i went to the doctors and he gave me penicillin.. which does seem to work for a while but it keeps coming back! Earlier today my throat started to hurt and now my ear hurts, when I look into the mirror my throat is red and at the very back behind the hanging on either side there are two pretty large red lumps.. I would usually go to the doctors but my next day off isn't until Thursday! I work 2-10 so its hard for me to go to the doctors at the moment considering i don't have a car. soo.. my question is should i leave work and go to the doctors? does it sound serious? and what could it be? I cant believe how much pain I'm in... mostly to the left side though. I would appreciate any information and in as much detail as possible... thankyou :)

  1. You need to go to the hospital. You have recurring tonsillitis and an ear infection. I think you will need your tonsils removed. You need to change your toothbrush, too. It is a bacterial infection, which can recur after using a toothbrush that you used when sick.

  2. first of all those large red lumps are called your tonsils.

frequent infections like this may mean that you need to take more action than just antibiotics. talk to your doc ab getting your tonsils removed or other ways to combat chronic tonsilitis (thats what u have is called)

  3. the two lumps on the sides of ur throat  would be ur tonsils. when you do go to the dr please have him/her  do a strep test to confirm that you actually have strep. because strep is bacterial and antibiotics will NOT work for a viral infection.

  4. well usually your throat will hurt after youve taken all of the meds because you havent completely killed the virus in your throat youll just stop taking the meds when your throat stops hurting but really the virus is still there its just not as powerful so it needs more time to grow after that so it will grow then hurt again. just ask your doc for a little extra meds and take the prescribed dosage a couple days after you need too.
