  1. Probably you are not on a sewer line (which means you're not connected to a city sewer line) but instead have your own cesspool. A cesspool in an underground cistern for waste water. It usually is brick lined, with openings between bricks and an open botom for waster water to filter / seep underground.

They back up sometimes if not used sparingly. If you do have one you will need to call someone to come and pump it out for you. You will also need to start using toilet paper made for cesspools, that breaks down easily. You should also not dispose of anything that does not break down easily into it, ie, plastics, 'feminine products' etc.

The guy who comes to clean it clean it out can tell you more.

  2. Your septic tank is full, have it pumped out ASAP.

  3. The water heater has nothing to do with your sewer backing up.  You have a main sewer blockage.  This is evidenced by the fact that raw sewage is coming up in the lowest opening in your sewer system, the bathtub. If there is a clean out in the yard, be very careful when you open it, as sewage could be under pressure in the system, and when you open the cap, the sewage will relieve itself, straight up into your face.  This is the one time, you definitely should call a plumber.  Raw sewage is nothing to "play" with, since so many diseases are transfered through the sewage system, not to mention the methane gas, that is highly flammable.  Leave this to a professional!  Good luck!

  4. If you live in the country and have your own septic tank it needs pumped out Look in phone book for companies that do this.otherwise xtron8r is correct.

  5. Your plumber messed up. Hot water tanks and toilets are fed by a cold water line. Excessive waste deposits into the toilet had two escape routes - the tub and the sewer pipe. The tub pipe cannot be level with the toilet pipe.

  6. The whole water heater thing could just be a coincidence. We had the exact same problem and it was because a tree root had grown into the sewer line. The plumber had to come out and run his snake-thingy through the line and gave us some kind of chemical to dump down the drain that was supposed to kill the root so it wouldn't grow back.

  7. You have a drain problem, remove the clean out cap out side to see if it backed up. Call a plumber. The hot water heater has nothing to do with it. Problems comes in 3's.
