Why is my tomatoes gettihg black on the bottoms while still on the vine???

  1. Normally tomatoes will begin with a few rotten ones on the vine. They will have black tpots on the bottom but after a while they will be good ones the rest of the time. This normally happens because of too much rain or watering when the vine is young.

  3. Sounds like it could be blossom end rot.  This is a condition which is common when a lot of rain has fallen in a short time, and when temps get on the high side.  

    It is caused by an imbalance of calcium in the soil which affects the development of the fruit in the way you describe.  

    There are sprays on the market (Bonide Rot Stop) which supplement the missing calcium and which help overcome the problem.  It will NOT cure the fruit already affected, but may help ripening fruit avoid the problem.
